Christina Aguilera’s always had one of the best voices in pop but seems desperate to hide it behind gimmicks. She’s been through the Dirrty phase, the glamorous phase and recently she’s appeared to be drinking Lady Gaga’s Kool-Aid.
This one’s from Back to Basics, the jazz influenced record from her glamour days and produced by the great DJ Premier. Primo’s the reason I checked this album out – he’s one half of Gang Starr and has worked with Nas on Illmatic, Biggie, Jay-Z on Reasonable Doubt, Mobb Deep, KRS-One, Mos Def…the list goes on and on. His trademark scratching is all over this and Christina’s voice sounds better than ever over his bouncy beat. Check it out.
